Project 01: Monsters
 

[Update!] The monster template has been completed, and is fully functional (though obviously it may require minor updates in the future.)

Currently, our main goal is to create a large database of the monsters in Atlantica. Right now, don't bother about adding other things such as the maps and items, just the monsters. Those will come in time too.

If you require any more help with how to use it, or to check in on if you're doing something right, please just post here. Also, you may want to look at an existing completed page for help.

Example: Evil Tree

To get an animated image of the monster, you will need to do some extra work. I suggest only doing this if you have the time or you just really want to complete it. Some monsters may require additional work (the ones that pop out of the box), however don't bother with those right now.

The first step is recording a short clip of the monster in the Monster Book (in-game.) You can use Fraps or some other video recording program, however please only do this if your computer can handle it.

After completing the video, please follow the following guide to get it into a GIF. http://www.mymmogames.net/forum/lata...ng-thread.html

Remember to try to crop it time-wise and size-wise as well as you can. Try to make sure the animation is not choppy when it replays itself, and also that there isn't too much blank space (pixels) around the monster when you finish it all.

I'm contemplating how to get the list of coordinates for locations into the template... or do you guys think it really isn't that important to include it?

I find coordinates too complicated considering how large the world is and how clunky it is.

I say nay and prefer the tradional "Monster A is South of Town A"

Where'd you get the animated gifs from?

I was wondering why you had the template set up to take gifs
(i almost changed it to png :O)

I recorded it from the in-game monster book. I wasn't sure if a still picture or an animated one would be preferred.

I was thinking about getting some still shots from that but some of the monsters (like the fairies from the starting area) don't completely fit within the box.

I reread through it and gave it a shot - I filled in the pages for abysmal lord and accused rudolph (just going through in abc order, with what I have in my index).

Does it look okay? The images said they were too big for the wiki (like 5xx kb for abysmal, 4xx for rudolph), and I'm not really too sure how to shrink the size. Also, I was fiddling around with settings cuz the gif didn't look too smooth (on the wiki,not in picture preview), so that's why there's like reverts and lots of reupdates/etc.

However, my computer can't handle doing those sort of things...I think. I am currently use CamStudio for my recording needs, but I need to ask, is virtual dub better (for recording games)? Whatever the case, I'll see if I can make plans to add monster content without .gifs so that people can just add the images alone. For now, working on Quest Log and other things :D

Hmm, I'm still wondering if we should use gifs for the images. @_@ I like animated ones, but it may just be better to use stills, for convenience and easier attainability.

I think that's probably adviseable, also given the amount of monsters in the log, and the size of the gif file.

Alright, here's how it will work. Right now, to save time, save the stills as gifs. This way it saves time, and if anyone does want to animate it, they can reupload a new one.

Also remember, if you have incomplete data on a monster, please include the ?'s, that way we know it is not complete.

I'm considering adding a good amount of info to the wiki, I could include details on all monsters I've faced and the info I have on them, I just wouldn't be able to include a gif.
