although, imo, the signature looks really messy, no offense~
the blur on the bottom, especially near the claw, doesn't seem to fit.
even though it's to imitate motion, it would've been better to smudge horizontally.

the speed lines also look very blocky and would easily have been avoided if you, again,
used smudge or a quick swipe of a brown brush.

in other words, there are better methods of making speed lines
without have to crop, copy and paste it over and over again to make the effect~

however, i do like the picture choice~ great smooth colors that you can play around with~

You see kimmi, I disagree with that one.

I liked the way he made the motion in this sig.
In a sig with any other theme I probably would go with the things you're saying, but I feel like the blocky/pixelated speed lines fit the signature 'cause this sig is a Digimon sig...and Digimon could be thought of as data -- and they would therefore have pixelated speed lines. ;D

But yeah, I'm not sure if that's what you were going for Ice, but that's what I see/think about when I see the sig. Good stuff.

Oh yeah Ice, the way I like to think about sigs is keeping a constant theme for the sig. So if the sig is meant to be smooth everything should look smooth, and if the sig's meant to be pixelated then, yeah.

So that's the thing I don't like with the sig--the fact that there's a "smooth-themed" blur at the bottom when I feel like the theme of the sig's meant to be more pixelated.

I don't really like how you took away from the render. Although it's to create an effect, it's not too pleasing on the eyes.
I agree with kimmi on the blur on the claws. It just doesn't fit and looks very messy.
Another thing is, I'd like to see more color.
Also, I'd have put the lighting effect someplace else.

For a positive: the placement of your render is perfect.
People undermine the placement of your render and deem it trivial.
But, actually, it's supposed to be the center of attention and can either add to/take away the overall flow.

First off good points: The Render stands out alot. Kudos for that

Things I don't like: I not a fan of the chrome effect on the guys hand. It makes it pixelated in some areas. The little light at the bottom draws the user attention from the render down. IMO, thats not a good thing if you're trying to make the render stand out. Are those wind effects or did you just use the rectangle selection tool?

I personally don't like it either and I was wondering how many people were going to tell the truth about what they thought. I followed a tut and thats the result which comes from the tut not being very clear so thanks again for the comments.

a pet peeve of mines are people who follow tutorials to the max.
like, they don't even do their own changes~ have you ever seen those "how to draw manga books"?
some people draw exactly how everything is in the tutorial and then claims that they can draw "anime"
and don't even develop their own styles at all~ *u*;;; this is indeed a great thread that shows what happens
when you use a tutorial through without changing anything~</div>

Quite true! Following a tutorial exactly would only prove that you know how to follow directions well.
Making your own changes and experimenting is when you truly start to learn GFX!

You guys should have seen how proud I was when I realized I was actually following a tut step by step! I always changed things and this time I said I was going to do it step by step no changes and for once I finally pulled through! Now I see how horrible it made it look so now I won't ever have to do step by step again.
