-Everything- in zombie-related -anything- is cliche. Zombie apocalypses -themselves- are cliche!
Why you need to take a logic class:
1. Assume zombie themed media to be the set.
2. Assume some random "-Everything-", as you call it, to be a subset of the chosen set in number 1. For this purpose, I shall choose a hot pink submarine as the setting.
Given your premises, if the subset (that is, the hot pink submarine) shows up only once, it is suddenly cliche, even if it is the only of its kind, not only in the zombie themed media set, but in the universal set of all types of medias.
A cliché or cliche (pronounced /kliːʃeɪ/ (klee-shay) in English, but /kli.ʃe/ (klee-shé) in French), is a saying, expression, idea, or element of an artistic work which has been overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, "played out", rendering it a stereotype, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or novel.
So, something that has been used only once is suddenly overused? In fact, regardless of how much it is used in general media, once it is used only ONCE in a zombie-related media, it is suddenly overused?
The conclusion doesn't follow from the premises.
Zombie apocalypses are cliche, I'll give you that much. However, that does not mean the individual qualities of the different zombie-type medias themselves are cliche. In fact, it says nothing about them. They may be rarely used in reference to zombies, but overused with regards to other forms of media. They may be used once in a zombie movie, but not used anywhere else. You would not, however, be able to gather that from simply looking at the set of zombie movies or zombie games.
Therefore, stating an individual quality as cliche is not stating the obvious. It is stating an opinion. And I at least have something to back it up.
I will, however, reword my previous post to clarify it a bit.
I just think guns are way to cliche with reference to zombie survival movies and games. Sure it'll increase their survival chances, but it won't look as cool. Just about every zombie movie or game has guns as the main weapon of everyone. Some variety for once is a nice change. :|
To expand on that a bit, the random items they scrounged up adds to the realism of the anime. They go to a school. In Japan.
Bit of a random fact, Japan is not allowed to have guns after what happened in the world wars. Even their police. I'm not sure about their JSDF, but I'll assume yes to that.
This being the case, it is unrealistic for them to be able to find guns unless they have access to some black market or something along those lines. Just cause I highly doubt the JSDF can just hand out guns to regular citizens.
But, whatever, it's just a story so I suppose I should cut it some slack. I haven't read the manga so I have no clue how they get their guns.
