To be honest I don't feel anything touching in the story, just typical love story, but amazing artwork indeed.

Will I cry?

Kenjii 09-05-2008 09:50 PM

Agreed here. This one is just a little too melancholy.

It may have been that one surfing girl on the 2nd part.

Also...seriously this thread dates back to June...was it necessary to troll it back up? <_<

Wow, I just watched half of part two and all of part three at my friend's house today, come home, check MMOG, and this was bump'd by pure coincidence.

The artwork is very nice, the animation is of my liking; a lot.
Since I basically just watched the second half, I didn't understand it as much. Still, what I did see was a very nice touch.

I didn't even notice, lol.

Still an above average anime movie, nevertheless.

well, it's better than making a new thread and it getting closed since this one existed already. and OP's got all the necessary in the 1st post..so why not??

btw, the promised place in our early days is better plot wise, but 5cm/s still pwns with the artwork. *plans to get voices from a distant star*

This was by the Girl Who Leapt Through Time guy, right? I'll have to watch it.

Symphonica 09-08-2008 02:27 AM

Don't be disappointed when I say it's a different guy. For Byousoku, I assume you meant Makoto Shinkai, Freya.

I don't know the author of The Girl who leapt through time. I'm sure it's not Makoto Shinkai. The Girl who leapt through time is also called Makoto, coincidence.

Nevertheless, both were interesting. Byousoku tends to be more narrative, of course. His movies are all like that :py25:

Freyalise 09-08-2008 03:08 PM

Huh. Oh well, I'll check it out anyway.

khyle 09-08-2008 05:55 PM

the show is good dont listen to the critics XD
watch it and tell us your viewer ratings ;D

I still prefer kumo no mukou, yakusoku no basho over Byousoku 5 cm
despite being an older title, the story fares better than the show ^__^

[Shinkai Makoto] works [ 新海 誠 ]

Kakomareta Sekai
Tooi Sekai
Hoshi no Koe
Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko
Wind -a breath of heart- Omake OVA
Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho
「ef - the latter tale」 OP movie

Toki o kakeru shoujo [ 時をかける少女 ]

Director: Mamoru Hosoda
Producer: Takashi Watanabe (Kadokawa Shoten)

The actual director for Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is Mamoru Hosoda. If you are looking for progressive storyline such as Place Promised in Our Early Days, you've come to the wrong place. The time span set between each of the three parts of the movie is quite far apart and it's packed with sad narratives. If you ask me, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo was just as good as 5cm. Their arts were simple and effective compared to Shinkai's high budget production cost.

Freyalise 09-10-2008 07:51 AM

I haven't seen Place Promised yet either. :/

*adds to list of things to look at when her computer is fixed*

DemiGodDanzig 09-10-2008 07:52 AM

the artwork was great, and the story was allright
