I remember watching a bunch of Ghibli movies as a wee lad.
Too bad I can barely remember what happened in any of them except for Spirited Away.

I'll definitely watch this again when I have the time.

I still loved that movie. Me and my sister made many gushing memories and this one thing she did...

You see, we have one of those DVDs that contain EVERY SINGLE DUBBING LANGUAGE (so it's not a legit copy you can say) and out of pure boredom, she went through all of the languages to hear the different varieties of Howl's screaming tantrum! xDD I swear I think we were all cracked up! xD

Also, I would consider picking up the original book! It was as funny and still mostly in-plot as the movie, though do take well that the Ghibil had taken a much more serious approach... So it's hard to not imagine Howl as a man purely with a child's mind and Sophie really is that mother figure... I still need to read the sequel "Castle in the Air" or something like that.. Where the story was based on an Arabian Night story with Howl, Sophie and her child had taken a cameo role in that story..

Probably one of my most favorite movies of all time. Kind of reminded me of an alternate "Beauty and the Beast" (which is my favorite Disney movie :p )

I actually have the book, but I've never read it, so thanks for letting me know there's a sequel as well Gaap! :) (It also looks like there's a 3rd one called "House of Many Ways")

Plus Josh Hutcherson.

Overall, I still don't understood the movie, probably has the be my least favorite Ghibli film because half the time Howl is a giant ravenbird fighting black blobs and airships.

Not to mention the romance never clicked for me like in others, for instance, whisper of the heart or from up on poppy hill.

4/10

Yeah, this honestly isn't a favorite of mine either. I've seen it probably twice since it came out, and yet nothing about it really sticks out in my mind. Comparatively, there are much more lovable Studio Ghibli films, like My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo, as well as other films from the studio that just have better writing and better execution, like Grave of the Fireflies.

Not that its a bad film by any means, but its comparably one of the less likable films from them. It's just a more recognizable film to an American audience, and I feel like that's the reason that it got the nomination for January.

OMFG that film was so ****ing sad. It's unbelievable how clearly those haunting images/scenes are still burned into my memory.

BUT GUESS WHAT. Ima be that one depressing ***** that will nominate it next month. No one steal my thunder :py23:

P. much. I watch all of these films in japanese with subs btw. I'm sure even if it was a dubbed version I still wouldn't like it.

Ah! IDK if my sis had read it, but I still want to read the sequel. If any newcomers wants to give the original novels a read, do take note that the original was different. Diana admits that film adaptations will have ton of changes, and this movie screams it. But she still appreciates it and loved the ideas that had never thought earlier in her books!

Howl was not as.. Regal as the movie. I think I prefer the novel Howl, but have the image/form from the movie. (Since it was common yet lovable to see cute guys on comedy moments!)

Sad to say I have never seen Totoro, Whisper of the Heart... Or any others that were later released on DVD. :(
