Red/Blue/Yellow took place in Kanto. Gold/Silver/Crystal took place in Johto, then revisited Kanto. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald took place in Hoenn, and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum take place in Sinnoh.
But yay 8D G/S was my favorite arc ;-; So many good memories.
