I'd only go to a convention on two conditions:

I need to live in the same state, or a couple states over at most, that it's being held in
I need to have a friend that is also interested in going with me

I wouldn't mind spending the money for the trip and hotel/whatever else. But so far out of my two conditions, none are met.
