to answer your question, yes thats a life sentence.
he got 40 life sentence, a life sentence = 100 years, so he got 4,000 years. meaning he had 40 charges brought against him that resulted in a life sentence, plus whatever got him that extra 60.
it's not like the judge went, "your a sick freak, spend 4,00 years in jail". It's more like "for charge (whatever he was brought up with) life in prison, for (whatever charge two was) life in prison...".
