Trees are gifts of nature. They are the best friends of mankind. The existence of human life cannot be imagined without trees. Human beings depend largely on trees.
Trees inhale carbon-di-oxide and supply oxygen which is the greatest gift of trees to us. As it is impossible to live without oxygen just for a moment, our life largely depends on trees. Trees supply us with food and vitamins. We get medicine from trees. They give us timber which we need to build houses, furniture, boats and bridges. We make paper from trees. Trees give us shade and shelter. They catch clouds, help rainfall and make the soil fertile. They stop desertification process and keep the nature cool. Trees protect the land from erosion. They not only keep our environment balanced but also make our surroundings beautiful. Trees help us to survive by maintaining ecological balance.
Man is cutting down trees at a large scale for firewood and furniture. Tropical rainforests are being cleared at a rate of 14 square kilometers per hour. In Bangladesh there are not sufficient trees. We have only 16% of forests in our country though a country should have 25% of forests of its total area. With the increase of population in Bangladesh most of the trees have been cut and used up. Very few people care about to plant new trees. As a result, our land is at a deficit of necessary trees. If such a situation continues, our country will turn into desert soon. There will be want of food, medicine and other useful things. We will face great crisis. In order to get rid of such a situation we should start tree plantation.
Bangladesh is a low riparian country. Upper levels are the best suitable places to plant trees. Sea beaches and low-lying unused lands can be used for tree plantation. There are many roads and highways in our country.
