Coming from the music perspective, unless a musician is super goddamn popular, they probably won't make much money from actual record sales. They make virtually no money from albums sold on Itunes. Most of that money goes to whatever label they're signed to. Most musicians make money from merchandising and live shows. If you want to support a musician, buy a shirt or go to a show.
