Doesn't shock me, but it looks like it's more the freemium route - free but sucks unless you pay for at least the veteran rank or gold.
I heard from one of my irl friends that WoW might go freemium at this rate (keep certain races locked, etc), but I don't have a source on that so it's just hearsay from the grape vine.
