You can't unequip items unless you use it all up.

Upon reaching V rank, receiving battleships is the last rank up reward.

I think they mightve changed that in KR regarding the rank up rewards. When I got to V rank not only did I get ships but I got exp packs as well.
I'll see if I keep getting exp packs when I rank up.
