Default A fix for my ethernet socket?

My laptop's ethernet cable socket seems to be broken or something. I guess it got messed up when my mom accidentally stepped on my cable many months ago and yanked it out of its socket pretty forcefully. Since then I haven't been able to plug in a cable without having it constantly coming loose because it doesn't latch into the socket properly. I've had a closer look at the socket with a flashlight and it seems like some piece of metal or plastic in it has definitely moved out of place. Like, normally you hear a tiny "clicking" sound when you put a cable into the ethernet socket, as if to say it's in place, but mine doesn't make that sound anymore. I don't want to replace my laptop, it's still pretty new, and I don't have any knowledge about computer parts to fix or replace it. What do I do?
