No I haven't installed any drivers recently (not that I remember at least).

So how do I reset (or did you really mean reseat?) RAM?

I did the chkdsk, and even with my basic knowledge, there seemed like there was nothing wrong. Stage 1 said that there were no bad files... o-o;;
